Here are some photos and a video of tonight's Supermoon. These photos were snapped from a rooftop in Brooklyn Heights. This is the moon at it's fullest and brightest all year, there was already a supermoon this year on July 12th however tonight's is more eye-catching. Supermoons occur when the moon becomes full at the closest point in its orbit to Earth, called a perigee full moon. Here is some info from the U.S. Navy site about the supermoon:
"The Full Sturgeon Moon occurs on the 10th at 2:09 pm EDT, within hours of the closest lunar perigee for the year. Yes, at this time Luna will be about 12% bigger and 30% brighter than it was in January"
